Leadership under the #New Sheriff in Town
As Sheriff, my first priority will be to conduct a top-down review of all Department policies and procedures to ensure fair and just policies across the board.
Recruitment
I will recruit and hire qualified Deputies in numbers that reflect the diversity of the communities of San Diego County. This includes mentorship of our Deputies to address work-related issues and develop a long-term career plan.
Promotions
Promotions will be fair and equitable, and implemented in a standard and transparent method, where every Deputy knows the process and expectations.
Addressing Deputy Misconduct
Under the current leadership, there is a culture of cover-ups, rather than transparency. There have been instances of Deputies charged with sexual assault, jail death records have been sealed, and individuals who abuse the system have previously been able to move to a different jurisdiction to continue to abuse authority.
Under my leadership, misconduct will be acted on immediately. I will not tolerate the abuse of the public’s trust within the Sheriff's Department. Our Deputies are leaders in the field, and will perform with integrity and accountability.
