As Sheriff, when it comes to technology, I fully intend to embrace emerging technology that is good for domestic law enforcement.

Responsible Use of Law Enforcement Technology

When considering the use of technology, it is important not to implement technology until there are policies, practices, and understanding around what that technology is, how it will be used, who has access to the data, consistent monitoring of those accessing the data, and what data it is collecting.

Our use of technology has evolved in a way that allows law enforcement to respond quicker to people’s calls for help. However, technology that is invasive, or technology that the Department or the public doesn’t understand, needs a complete and transparent vetting before it is implemented.

We must have robust policies, not only on the deployment and use of any technology or equipment, but also what happens to the data when we receive it.
